As I was scrolling down few old pics of my travel. This waterfall again awestruck me.
I travelled to Jabalpur Few months ago.
Dhuandhar Waterfall is one of the most attractive & best location for tourist in Madhya Pradesh.
Must be thinking,
why this waterfall is known as Dhuandhar....?
The flow of waterfall is such that it gives an illusion of smoke, which is why it's
called Dhuandhar, where Dhuan means smoke and dhar means flow of water. Above Image is a witness.
It is also known as Bhedaghat. Bhedagath is known for marble rocks those are featured in so many motion pictures of Bollywood. These rocks show thousand different hues and colours as day light shifts. Some of those are yellow… some are blue… some are black, and some are even pink…. People say that these marbles shine during full moon hence very rightly referred as Nature’s answers to Khajuraho’s sculptures.….
It indeed a unique landscape where river Narmada plunged into deep chasm surrounded by huge marble rocks. Witnessing that view is truly an inspiring experience.
I went to Jabalpur for some family function with my family, in between we got the chance to visit that unique landscape.
We Planned to leave early morning for bhedaghat, So, booked auto as it was quite 25Kms away from my hotel., took around 45mintues to reach because roads toward that Ghat was Under construction & in mess.
There are many other tourist attractions around Bhedaghat including Chausath yogini temple and Dhuandhar waterfall and all of those lies at walkable distance from Bhedaghat.
Take the road up-hill (towards Dhuandhar waterfall) and kept walking, you will see stairs to Chausath yogini temple which lie on a hill top. It’s a very old temple and highly revered among the devotees. The main shrine is surrounded by 64 miniature shrines of Goddesses for those it was named chausath yogini. Photography is now allowed inside the main shrine but it’s OK to take capture the beauty of gorgeous landscape at its surroundings. Temple offers some of the incredible view of marble rocks, Dhuandhar waterfalls and river Narmada.
Mom dad were quite happy to see such beautiful temple.
Walking further on the same road, you will reach Dhuandhar waterfall which is a popular picnic spot and hang out destination of locals. There are many emporium and souvenir shops selling artifacts made of marbles.
The same lane is also blessed with couple of restaurants and stalls selling cold beverages and snacks. Cold beverages are life saver to negotiate with the scorching heat during day time.
Dhuandhar waterfalls are formed when river Narmanda plunged into a deep chasm protected by marble rocks. It’s truly an overwhelming delight for the travelers seeking exotic landscapes.
Taking a ride on the ropeway and getting down on the other side of the river is the best thing you can do at Dhuandhar waterfalls.
You will get the sense of those beautiful marbles while boating. There are different kinds of boats available at Bhedaghat and the expensive one will take you closer to Dhuandhar water fall. In most of the boats it is 45 minutes boating ride around the marble rocks with really humorous commentary from the rowers (if you understand Hindi). These boats will take you to all the points associated with Bollywood movies.
The water level was less, so we got chance to the way till a point (Also known as monkey point) where few brave souls take a high jump from marble rocks to the river (Depth of Narmada at this point is more than 100 meters).
Even I got the chance to row the boat, but I am telling you, it was very difficult task. Hats off to rowers.
Do note the best time to visit the location is November – February when the heat is manageable & water level have receded.
On my way back to hotel , I also visited balancing rock of Jabalpur…. Still I rather wish to balancing my Bank Balance. Hahaha…
Place was really a "calm in the chaos"
Thanks for Reading & happy Travelling……..
Do share your experience as well... would love to hear from you all.......................
